Potter Revisited Episode #43 Doom and Gloom AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 6 "Talons and Tea Leaves"
- We are starting off the school term in this chapter and it is an eventful first day back
- We love the idea of Malfoy running into Fred and George's compartment on the train, scared of the Dementor
- Ron notices Hermione has 3 classes all at the same time, but she is able to brush him off in her Hermione way
- We theorize how Hermione uses the timeturner to get to classes - she seems to have 3 classes at the same time in the morning
- Would using the Timeturner so much age Hermione? Would it shorten her lifespan?
- Sir Cadogan is a delight
- Harry hates Divination but Tori and Shay disagree
- We are introduced to Trelawney and she is a very dramatic character - she is only "predicting" bad news
- Shay breaks down the predictions Trelawney makes in this first class and if they could be real
- Ron's teacup predicts suffering but also happiness - we discuss Ron's future throughout the series
- Hermione talks down to a professor and is very dismissive and openly disdainful for the first time - Is this her disbelief in Divination as a subject or because she's on her 3rd time going back in time for class and is tired and hungry?
- Why is Harry so worried about his cup having a death omen? He has had Voldemort trying to kill him every year and now Sirius Black
- McGonagall is the MVP and defuses the tension like the pro she is
- McGonagall says Trelawney "predicts" a student will die every year - we discuss who we think could have been the student before Harry
- Hermione obviously isn't happy with Divination after the first lesson - why didn't she drop it then?
- Hagrid is teaching his first ever class and although Hagrid is very knowledgeable and excited by the subject... he isn't that great at supervising students or teaching
- Allowing Harry to fly Buckbeak was probably a bit much for a lesson...
- Hagrid is supposed to be a teacher in charge but is relying a lot on Harry, Ron and Hermione throughout the lesson and making sure everyone is enjoying themselves rather than providing any real lesson
- It's interesting that Hermione is able to separate her feelings for her friend, Hagrid, and know he isn't a great teacher where as Harry and Ron see Hagrid as all or nothing and it's a betrayal to his character to think otherwise
- Again, as the trio visit Hagrid later on he is a bit drunk and confiding in them as a friend rather than any kind of adult or authority figure (until he is able to sober up at Hermione's interference)
- Looking forward to some great Lupin and Snape content next chapter!
