#42 Harry’s First Kiss ... Almost | PoA 5, The Dementor
Friday Apr 28, 2023
Friday Apr 28, 2023
Potter Revisited Episode #42 Harry's First Kiss... Almost AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 5 "The Dementor"
- Tori is back from her Taylor Swift concert in Tampa and Shay is (a) mad (woman)
- Mrs Weasley is telling Ginny and Hermione about the time she made a love potion as a young girl... we discuss our distaste for love potions and how they are so casually described in this series
- Mr Weasley is obviously acting as Harry's guard but it doesn't seem to be as annoying to Harry since Mr Weasley treats Harry like one of his own
- It's nice seeing Harry and Ginny having a normal moment together - laughing over how Percy is acting with his girlfriend- without Ginny being super embarrassed or shy
- Harry's casual reaction to Mr Weasley telling him that Sirius Black has escaped to kill him is fun but also sad seeing as it's Harry's normal at this point
- Why did no one think to tell Harry about his parents relationship with Sirius Black? Obviously it would of come out or he would of been able to find out on his own at some point - wouldn't of it have been better to here the truth (or what was thought the truth) from someone rather than gossip or rumours?
- Tori feels bad for Ginny being told to leave by Ron - How must Ginny be feeling coming back to school after her first year?
- The Trios train compartment has an extra guest - Remus Lupin. Why did he decide to ride the train? Was it for nostalgia or something else?
- Is Lupin really sleeping the whole time? Shay confirms the full moon was one day away when they were on the train
- The Sneakoscope Ron got Harry starts going off when in the train - is this foreshadowing to Scabbers being Peter Pettigrew or something else?
- You can't help feel bad for Harry when Ron and Hermione are talking about Hogsmede - why did they assume he'd be able to go?
- Tori fully understands Hermione's love for Crookshanks being a cat mom herself but Hermione isn't really being a responsibly pet owner by not taking Ron's concerns seriously
- Shay brings up the point that maybe 13 is too young to be a solo pet owner
- Why does Malfoy start every year antagonizing Harry on the train? What kind of validation does he get from it?
- Ron is very enraged by Malfoy - more so than previous books. Is this just due to his age, or could it be from what the Malfoy's put Ginny through last year?
- It seems very negligent of the Ministry to allow the Dementors to do whatever they want - they boarded the train full of young students and few staff who had no idea what was going on
- Shay agrees the train probably should have been search before they boarded or left the station but not by dementors
- When the Dementor comes into Harry's compartment he has a very bad reaction and ends up passing out - what would of happened if Lupin was not with him? From what Ron and Hermione tell him afterwords, Lupin had to force the Dementor to leave
- It is pretty sweet that Ginny comes looking for Ron when she's scared by what is going on - we discuss her relationship with the Twins and Percy and why Ron is the best choice
- Ginny also had a bad reaction to the Dementor - we discuss what reliving that trauma must of been like
- What must it been like for Lupin to see Harry after so long, especially as he looks so much like James?
- Harry seems surprised that Lupin knew who he was - is this foreshadowing that Lupin is going to be more than a DADA teacher?
- Some foreshadowing to the Thestrals as Harry describes the school carriages being pulled by "invisible horses"
- We both empathize with Harry being embarrassed about fainting - both of us have fainted in public situations including the same building we used to work
- Harry's reaction to McGonagall and Madam Pomfrey showing concern over him is very relatable - he is more worried by what others will think than his health
- Lupin has Pomfrey's seal of approval - we wonder if they have a close bond due to how much time Lupin would have spent in the hospital wing while at school
- We know that this meeting with McGonagall is where Hermione receives her timeturner and it just feels so negligent that this would need to be approved by so many people and no one seemed to be looking out for Hermione and her mental wellbeing
- It would have been more beneficial to Hermione to learn how to prioritize and pick the classes she really wanted to take
- Tori wonders if Hermione is the first one to use a Time Turner for classes, and Shay theorizes that Bill and Percy must have had to as well to get the number of OWLs they did
- Lupin is announced as DADA teacher and Snape is not happy
- Shay feels for Snape has it has to suck having your childhood bully get the job you have always wanted and also moving into your home
- Dumbledore really caused all this trouble with Snape and Lupin - Snape was just holding in all this resentment it's no wonder it bursts at the end of the book
- Why does it seem like Dumbledore is putting Snape through all these weird tests, just seeing how far he can push him?
- Hagrid is made CoMC Teacher - is he actually qualified? What makes a teacher qualified to teach?
- Dumbledore only really has staff that have a purpose for him (or Harry) so was Hagrid promoted because of how loyal he is?
- We discuss Dementors and the concept of having them at a school full of vulnerable children

#41 Prioritize Not Dying | PoA 4, The Leaky Cauldron
Thursday Apr 13, 2023
Thursday Apr 13, 2023
Potter Revisited Episode #41 Prioritize Not Dying AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 4 "The Leaky Cauldron"
- For the first time Harry is on his own, and able to do whatever he wants, when he wants - is this wise for a 13 year old?
- Shay wonders what a Hag is - is it rude word or something else?
- Shay loves that Florean Fortescue is helping Harry with his Homework
- Tori dives into the backstory and lost plot arch of Florean in the HP Series
- Florean was abducted in HBP and was supposed to be rescued by the trio in DH, and he was supposed to provide clues for Harry on the Deathly Hallows - particularly the Elder Wand and also on Ravenclaw's Diadem
- It was cut from DH as it didn't work for the story
- Is a sundae every half hour too much?
- It is so fortunate that Harry is financially responsible at 13 - why didn't he have any kind of trust or advisor set up?
- Lots of foreshadowing with the Firebolt
- We love everyone being scared of Neville's Gran
- A book on Death Omens also catching Harry's eye - foreshadowing of his "death"?
- We are reunited with the Weasley's and Hermione
- Hermione opts to stay at the Leaky Cauldron with everyone rather than spend her last day with her parents - we discuss Hermione pulling away from her family as the books progress
- Should the Witch at the Magical Menagerie been able to tell that Scabbers was actually an Animagus?
- How did Crookshanks know that Scabbers was bad?
- Did Hermione subconsciously adopt Crookshanks due to her feelings for Ron?
- Ron wants to catch Sirius Black to earn reward money - is how the Weasley Children view money healthy?
- Is Percy's relationship with The Twins starting to fracture?
- Everyone laughing at Percy at the dinner table except him and Mrs Weasley hits different
- Harry doesn't really care that supposed murderer Sirius Black is after him - he just wants to go to Hogsmede
- Shay discusses how the books very much coincide with the age Harry is
- We discuss the news of WB working to option an HP TV Show and our thoughts at this potential new HP content

#40 Public Transit Woes | PoA 3, The Knight Bus
Thursday Mar 30, 2023
Thursday Mar 30, 2023
Potter Revisited Episode #40 Public Transit Woes AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 3 "The Knight Bus"
- This entire chapter can be summarized as Harry thinking he has been expelled from school and is on a run from the government ... as a 13 year old
- Harry's plan actually isn't that bad for him being a Gryffindor and a minor
- Great foreshadowing and information about Sirius this chapter
- We love how the Knight Bus is very chaotic and so different from everything else we've seen in the Wizarding World so far
- Shay is not a fan of beds being on the Knight Bus
- We are introduced to Stan Shunpike - the first young adult we've met in the series so far
- How did Stan get the conductor job? Is it something he is passionate about? Or just a job since he is done school?
- Why are Ern and Stan not concerned that Harry is obviously a minor and is on his own in the middle of the night?
- Both of thought the Knight Bus sounded so cool and fun as kids (who didn't grow up with public transit) but now both as adults who primarily use public transit to get around - you could not pay us to use the Knight Bus
- How does the magic of the Knight Bus work? How can the Muggles not see or hear it?
- Harry giving the name Neville Longbottom to Stan and Ern is very funny - especially since this is the first book that introduces us to prophecies
- Why didn't Harry come up with a fake name or alias?
- Stan says the Knight Bus can go anywhere on land... does that mean Harry could have gone anywhere in central europe if he didn't need to go to Gringotts?
- Do Wizards really not know what guns are? If most Wizards live in the Muggle World, wouldn't they see it in media at the very least?
- Stan explains the Sirius Black backstory on how he got arrested - Shay wonders why everyone seemed to think Sirius was Voldemorts #2 in Command
- Why was Peter Pettigrew made a Death Eater? He obviously didn't have a very clear alliance to either side, just self preservation
- Why was Sirius laughing when he was caught? We talk a bit about the events that lead to Sirius' arrest and the headspace he could have been in
- Lots of foreshadowing to the "Azkaban Guards" - which give Ern the "Collywobbles"
- Harry is really thinking he may be sent to Azkaban if caught
- Harry runs right into Cornelius Fudge - the way he is treated by Cornelius in this book compared to OOTP is night and day
- If Sirius hadn't escaped and Fudge wasn't being criticized would Harry has received some kind of punishment for Aunt Marge? What if he wasn't Harry?
- Why does no one care about Harry's relationship (or lack there of) with the Dursley's? Such a red flag
- Again, this is all Dumbledore's fault
- Shay explains the meaning of Number 11 - the room number Harry is staying in at The Leaky Cauldron
- Harry is being allowed to stay at The Leaky Cauldron - by himself- for the last 3 weeks of summer holidays. This would be any young teens dream, but is it actually a good solution?
- Harry asking the literal Minster of Magic to sign his Hogsmede permission form gives Tori so much second hand embarrassment. Just forge the signature!
- Shay compares in to asking Canadian Prime Minister for a sick day

#39 Inflated Ego | PoA 2, Aunt Marge’s Big Mistake
Wednesday Mar 15, 2023
Wednesday Mar 15, 2023
Potter Revisited Episode #39 Inflated Ego AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 2 "Aunt Marge's Big Mistake"
- We discuss Dudley getting a TV in the kitchen, and how it contrasts how Dudley is being raised VS Harry
- Escaped convict Sirius Black is mentioned on the Muggle news - foreshadowing on what is to come in PoA
- Vernon and Petunia's initial view of Sirius - thinking he is a vagrant, etc - really shows how they view their place in society and think they are better than others as they don't even know what crime he has been arrested for.
- It seems especially bleak that Vernon calls for the death penalty - specifically how he uses the phrase "Those people"
- Aunt Marge is coming to visit and the incidents which Harry describes on her last few visits are alarming
- Comparing the Dursely's way of dealing with Harry VS Aunt Marge
- Harry blackmailing Uncle Vernon is great - but we think he could have done a bit better
- Is Harry conscious of the magic he is using unintentionally this chapter?
- Its interesting seeing the accidental magic Harry is doing this chapter as wandless magic is supposed to be very hard, and very powerful
- Shay wonders why Harry got upset about Aunt Marge insulting James rather than her dig at Lily before
- Shay finds Aunt Marge to be a very flat and unbelievable character compared to the other bad guys / villains we get in the series like Umbridge
- Vernon and Petunia let Aunt Marge steamroll over them and seem to bed over backwards to accommodate her - does she have more money or a higher standing in society?
- Harry is done with the Dursleys, packs up and leaves and we can't blame him. Shay wonders why Harry didn't leave earlier
- Looking at Harry's relationship with the Dursley's over the series, Shay wonders why they were never targeted to use against Harry
- We discuss the fatphobia in the series again, with the focus Dudley's weight this chapter. Tori discusses how the series very much lumps fat and ugly together and only all the bad or evil characters are described with these characteristics
- Shay also discusses Dudley as a character this far and how Petunia and Vernon are failing him with the way he is being raised
- Was Aunt Marge a plot device to get Harry to run away from the Dursley's? Could there have been another way to get Harry to leave without introducing a new character that never returns?
- We are looking forward to seeing Harry on the run thinking he's a wanted man next chapter!

#38 Tickled At The Stake | PoA 1, Owl Post
Wednesday Mar 01, 2023
Wednesday Mar 01, 2023
Potter Revisited Episode #38 Tickled At The Stake AKA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 1 "Owl Post"
- We discuss out excitement of heading into PoA in our reread journey - This was the first Harry Potter book Tori read all the way back when she was 10 years old
- PoA opens up similarly to CoS with the first chapter mostly being a summary of what happened in the previous books - we discuss how this works for children's series and how HP stops doing this as the series becomes more general fantasy/darker
- Shay wonders again why they are assigned summer homework - especially since it seems like Harry is working on some complicated essays
- Tori wonders if they are assigned more summer work this summer as they didn't learn much during CoS or if incoming third years are assigned more work to help ease them into their heavier course load in third year
- Tori discusses how the Witch Trials / Witch Burnings are described per Harry's textbook - how the fire only tickles them and the witch or wizard would disparate - and how this affects the Pureblood Anti-Muggle side of the series
- What did Harry expect would happen when giving Ron and Hermione his phone number?
- Why didn't Hermione call first since she actually knows how to use a phone?
- Shay wonders what Muggle Technology Wizards would find dumb or useless, and which tech they would love
- "Harry had to admit he was lucky to reach his 13th birthday" Tori and Shay discuss how Harry is always ready to die
- The Weasley's win the lottery!
- Did the Weasley's partly visit Bill to get Ginny away and help her after her traumatic year?
- Thank god Ron got a new wand!
- We discuss how Wizard vacations would work - how do the Weasley's travel to Egypt? Is it portkeys?
- Tori finds it a bit sad that Percy made Headboy yet none of his siblings seem very happy for him
- Hedwig is the true MVP picking up Hermione and Hagrid's gifts for Harry's birthday
- Hermione gets Harry a very personalized gift for his birthday - showing how close they have become as friends and how much she values him
- Tori finds Harry's birthday a bit sad as 13 is usually quite a big celebration with growing up and becoming a teenager but Harry is very content with opening a few gifts in the middle of the night by himself
- It is all Dumbledore's fault
- We are looking for the chaos Aunt Marge brings next chapter!

Wednesday Feb 01, 2023
Wednesday Feb 01, 2023
Potter Revisited Episode #36 You Meddling Kids! AKA Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 18 "Dobby's Reward"
- Harry, Ron, Ginny and Lockhart turn up to McGonagall's office in a state but Dumbledore is merely beaming while everyone else is losing it - especially McGonagall
- Harry cleverly avoids mentioning they brewed Polyjuice Potion to interrogate Malfoy in his recap to the professors
- Ginny has been through a harrowing ordeal... but Dumbledore merely tells her to lie down and drink some hot chocolate? Shouldn't there me more concern of the lasting effects of being possessed the the fact she almost died?
- Was this Dumbledore's first clue that Harry might be a Horcrux?
- Did Dumbledore know Lockhart was a fraud the whole time?
- Lucius is losing it big time
- Lucius choosing Ginny to give the diary to in order to progress his political power shows the Malfoys never do anything unless it also benefits them in some way
- Dobby is the true MVP giving Harry hints about Lucius right in front of him
- Tori and Shay wonder how much Harry's sock would need to stretch to fit the diary inside of it
- Dobby being accidentally freed by Lucius is the best justice - especially when Dobby is able to use his magic against him
- Harry asks Dobby to promise not the save him anymore, which is how Dobby unfortunately meets his end
- Why is Hermione upset exams have been canceled? She is in no way prepared for them
- Everyone including the teachers are happy Lockhart isn't returning as DADA prof - showing how much his popularity has fallen from the beginning on the book
- Percy's secret is revealed: He has a girlfriend!

#35 How Come You’ve Got A Sword? | CoS 17, The Heir of Slytherin
Thursday Jan 19, 2023
Thursday Jan 19, 2023
Potter Revisited Episode #34 How Come You've Got A Sword? AKA Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 17 "The Heir of Slytherin"
- We need a property survey and updated map of Hogwarts that includes all the secret chambers and how far underneath the castle they are
- The way the chamber is described in the book makes it seem a lot bigger than the film shows - even the statue of Salazar is bigger
- Harry does not seem very shocked or concerned that Tom Riddle is there
- Tom picks up Harry's wand - which is the brother to his wand. What would of happened if he attempted to use it?
- "We're in the Chamber of Secrets, we can talk later!"
- Interesting to think that Hagrid is only a few years younger than Voldemort and they were peers at school
- Tom Riddle is Voldemort and Voldemort is him - and is very dramatic
- How does Tom Riddle know so much about Harry when it is after his time? Did Ginny tell him, or is it due to him being a Horcrux and connection to the other bit of soul left in Voldemort?
- Shay find it hilarious how Tom had to bond with an 11 year old girl, and wonders what they would have talked about
- Tom Riddle seems a bit more human than Voldemort when discussing his parentage - claiming is changed his name not because he hated Muggles but because his father abandoned him
- We reflect on Harry seeing the teenage version of the person who later on grew up to murder his parents
- Harry is Dumbledore's Man through and through already
- What kind of magic tethers Fawkes to Dumbledore - how is Fawkes able to know to come to Harry?
- Voldy is UGLY
- The description of Fawkes puncturing the Basilisk's eyes is a bit too much for us reading even as adults
- Dumbledore is very lucky the Sword coming through the sorting hat didn't knock Harry out. Shay loves the silliness of it
- Interesting to think that Basilisk venom is one of the only ways to destroy and Horcrux, and it ends up piercing Harry
- We discuss the compulsion Harry had to stab the diary with the fang - was it the Horcrux in him acting to protect itself?
- We discuss the trauma Ginny has faced this year and how it will impact her going forward
- Did Ginny think that Percy would turn her in?
- Ron's first reaction after seeing that Harry and Ginny are alright is the fact Harry has a sword. Very 12 year old reaction.
- Lockhart gets his karma at last
- Shay discusses what items like the Sword of Gryffindor the other houses could have

#34 Lockhart Only Sees What’s In The Mirror | CoS 16, The Chamber of Secrets
Wednesday Dec 21, 2022
Wednesday Dec 21, 2022
Potter Revisited Episode #34 Lockhart Only Sees What's in The Mirror AKA Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 16 "The Chamber of Secrets"
- It's a book title chapter and a lot happens! How many times is the book title a chapter title in the series?
- The Profs expect students to revise and write exams at this point and we agree with the students outrage
- What about those students that were petrified for most of the year like Colin? Would they be exempt?
- Ron is very luck to not have to do his practical exams with his wand
- McGonagall has an announcement and very on brand - Wood thinks "Quidditch!"
- Shay talks about Quidditch likely being Oliver's coping mechanism
- Ginny is very anxious and wants to tell Harry and Ron something - Shay wonders if her inability to get the words out is the Horcrux prohibiting her
- Just as Ginny is about to say something, Percy comes to ruin everything
- Was Percy naive in believing Ginny wasn't going to tell Harry and Ron anything important
- The way Percy describes what Ginny walked in on makes it sound less innocent that what it is revealed to be later
- Harry comes up with a cover story and moves McGonagall to tears
- How did no one else notice the paper in Hermione's hand?
- Was it out of character for Hermione to rip a page out of a Library book?
- The way Harry and Ron use this information to connect everything is very impressive
- The first time Harry and Ron decide to go to a teacher first before acting - and it backfires
- Why didn't they just stay out in the staff room and give their information then - it was very important!
- The Profs ganging up on Lockhart is what we have been waiting for
- Ron, The Twins and Harry are all sitting together after the news of Ginny while Percy locks himself in his room after informing his parents. Is this showing the divide between Percy and his family already?
- Interesting that it is Ron's idea to go to Lockhart. Why didn't they try and find a competent teacher like McGonagall instead?
- Harry and Ron discover Lockhart's a fraud and he attempts to erase their memories - isn't that a HUGE crime?
- We discuss memory charms and if they should be ranked up with the unforgivable curses
- Ron is the one who tells Harry to speak Parseltongue to open the chamber - which comes back full circle in DH where he mimics Harry speaking it to go down with Hermione
- Shay wonders why Ron and Harry didn't include Fred and George on their adventure
- Lockhart causes a cave in and Harry and Ron are seperated - a very touching moment where they don't quite say anything but we get how important they are to each other

#33 Arachnophobia | CoS 15, Aragog
Wednesday Dec 07, 2022
Wednesday Dec 07, 2022
Potter Revisited Episode #33 Arachnophobia AKA Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 15 "Aragog"
- We agree with Ron - we are not about the spiders in this chapter
- Madame Pomfrey barres students out of the hospital wing as soon as Dumbledore is gone - she doesn't trust anyone
- Malfoy is being the biggest shit in this chapter according to Tori
- Does Snape actually enjoy his job? He's a teacher as a cover to spy for Dumbledore and becomes a headmaster to spy for Voldemort but really for Dumbledore
- Malfoy keeps wondering what one of his peers will die - kind of a red flag
- Ron leaps to Hermione's defence - wish we could have gotten more of Book!Ron in the films
- Hermione's absence is very clear but Ron seems to be feeling it more than Harry in this chapter - he faces his biggest fear for her!
- Ernie owns up to being wrong and apologizes - but Ron is still holding a grudge on Harry's behalf
- Ernie admits Harry never would have done anything to Hermione - then why did he suspect him before?
- Lockhart is happy that Hagrid has been arrested - but Dean jumps to his defence. Are the other Gryffindors also close with Hagrid?
- We wouldn't blame Harry for throwing a book at Lockhart
- Shay finds it interesting that Lockhart can't see through Fudge only arresting Hagrid for good press, when he himself is almost a politician in the way he presents himself
- Were Harry and Ron not checking in or feeding Fang? Poor dog!
- They find the car - which has gone "wild" living in the forest - how did that happen?
- Giant spiders kidnap Harry, Ron and Fang - the worst kind of immersion therapy for Ron
- Tori fast-forwarded through this scene on VHS back in the day
- Shay in intrigued by Aragog saying Hagrid found him a "wife" - not a mate. Why was this done?
- Hagrid was around 13 when he was giving the egg that was Aragog - was he out in Hogsmede at the pubs drinking with strangers back then?
- Aragog has some kind of attachment for Hagrid if not love - he is very offended of Hagrid being accused of opening the chamber of secrets
- Harry stands up when Aragog declares them a meal - because he didn't want to die a coward. A true Gryffindor and a theme for Harry throughout the series
- The car finds and saves them - how does it know?
- It would have been a different series if they left Fang to the spiders...
- Ron is definitely having a panic attack and we don't blame him
- Harry pieces together the new information they gathered and comes to the conclusion that Moaning Myrtle is the girl who died 50 years ago - pretty amazing!
